Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries verbally commits his future in Italy

Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries has insisted that he’s ‘staying’ in Italy despite interest across Europe.

The Netherland international has been a vital feature within Simone Inzaghi’s side this season and played a crucial role in their run to the Champions League final. 

In the end, it wasn’t meant to be for the Serie A outfit but Dumfries has insisted that the result has not effected his future at the club – despite Man United’s interest.

According to Manchester Evening News, the full-back said: ‘When we get back together, despite this defeat, we will be hungry for victory next season. 

‘What if I stay at Inter? Yes, at the moment I’m staying at Inter,’ the defender claimed in an interview after their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City.

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United had been monitoring the full-back’s situation in Italy

The 27-year-old had emerged as a potential transfer option for Erik ten Hag’s Man United in summer, as they look to land a new first-choice right-back. 

Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong leads their shortlist but his compatriot Dumfries had also been identified as a potential option.

Frimpong has been listed as one of the players that Leverkusen are willing to let leave the club during the summer window, according to reports. 

Dumfries has enjoyed an impressive two seasons in Italy, after joining from Dutch giants PSV in the summer of 2021.

Since then, he’s managed to record seven goals and 14 assists from 96 appearances – making him one of the best attacking full-backs across Europe. 

The 27-year-old featured in 12 of their 13 matches in the Champions League as they reached this year’s final and were defeated 1-0 by Man City.

On top of a first-choice right-back, United are also looking to land a new striker and made a major breakthrough in that pursuit on Tuesday.

Denmark are set to play in the Euro qualifiers this week, providing the perfect opportunity for Eriksen to argue the Manchester United cause to the youngster, according to Manchester Evening News.

20-year-old Hojlund scored a hat-trick in his first international start for Denmark in March, putting his name on a number of clubs’ lists, including ten Hag’s. 

He has also impressed in his debut season for Serie A club Atalanta since he joined in August last year, making 32 appearances and scoring 9 goals in the Italian top flight.

Harry Kane has also been linked to Manchester United to fill their striker vacancy, but Real Madrid interest and Daniel Levy reportedly against selling to a Premier League rival is making this prospect increasingly uncertain.
