IndiGo veteran Sanjay Kumar resigns – Times of India

NEW DELHI: IndiGo’s chief strategy & revenue officer Sanjay Kumar has resigned from the budget airline. Kumar is a veteran of Indian aviation who was associated with IndiGo from its early days.
The airline confirmed his resignation and said the head of international sales, Vinay Malhotra who recently joined from VFS, will take over Kumar’s role.
Kumar had joined IndiGo as chief commercial officer in 2007 and was in that role till 2018. He then quit to join AirAsia India as COO and returned to IndiGo in January 2020. He is credited with creating the mega spider web type of network IndiGo has built in its over 16 years of existence. It is now the domestic market leader.
On a standalone basis, IndiGo flies more international passengers than any other Indian airline. Air India and AI Express together fly more people between India and rest of the world than IndiGo.
The last three years have seen major churning in the Big Blue airline. First the founder-promoters – Rahul Bhatia and Rakesh Gangwal – had a bitter fall out. Gangwal has begun selling his stake in the airline. Rahul Bhatia took over as MD.
Following the promoters’ spat, there have been some top level changes too starting right from the top. Former KLM president Pieter Elbers recently took over as CEO as the airline is now planning a major expansion in the international skies.
