IND vs SL 1st Test Day-1 Highlights: Pant’s onslaught takes India to 357-6
Apart from, Pant, Hanuma Vihari also scored a fifty while, Virat Kohli, who is playing his 100th Test scored 45 as well. In the last session, India scored 158 runs at more than six runs per over. Most of the run-scoring was done by Pant who raced to 96 from 50 in just 24 balls.
Earlier in the day, both Kohli and Vihari achieved personal milestones, while Kohli became only the sixth Indian to reach 8000 Test runs, Vihari brought up his fifth Test half-century. Kohli also became the first Indian to bring up his 8000 Test runs in his 100th Test. Prior to him, only two other players in the entire world have done it- South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Australia’s Ricky Ponting.
India started the day on a great note with openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal bringing up a 50 run partnership in the first 10 overs only. However, Sri Lanka bounced back and slowly and steadily picked up five wickets to get India down to 228-5 before the storm called Rishabh Pant burst open.
For Sri Lanka, Lasith Embuldeniya picked two wickets while a wicket apiece went to Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando and Dhananjaya de Silva. Kumara went off the field after bowling only 10.5 overs and Sri Lanka would hope that he comes back on Day-2 of the Test match as they are already playing with only four frontline bowlers and can’t afford to lose one of them.
