Have you heard this Bengali folk version of ‘Manike Mage Hithe’? – Times of India

While the news of Sinhalese singer Yohani de Silva of the runaway hit ‘Manike Mage Hithe’ making her Bollywood debut in the upcoming Ajay Devgn film ‘Thank God’ trends big time on social media not many people know quite a few Bengali versions of the hit song have been made in the last few months. Among these, a young musician and YouTuber Anirban Sur’s cover version with a Bengali folk touch has gone viral.

The talented musician, in fact, has created two editions and both have garnered a huge appreciation from music lovers. Anirban first released a Bengali folk mash-up as he mixed the song with ‘Tomae Hridmajhare Rakhbo’, ‘Tomar Ghore Bosot Kore’ and ‘Lal Paharir Deshe Ja’. In the second edition of the cover, he has punched the song with ‘Tui Shyam Sayore Naite Jabi’, ‘Kada Dili Sada Kapore’ and ‘Kemon Boka Montare’.

The overwhelming response to his cover versions has made Anirban all excited and he plans to continue his experiments. He says that he had understood the original lyrics and interestingly realized that there is a similarity with some of Bengal’s popular folk songs. “The similarity inspired me to punch the original song with our iconic songs, with lyrics like: ‘Ekjone chobi aake ek mone oh o mon/aar ekjone boshe boshe rong makhe oh o mon’,” he shared. Aniran shot his music video on a terrace and tried to keep it a simple one without too many props.

‘Manike Mage Hithe’, the original Sinhala song was uploaded on YouTube earlier in May this year. The music video sent social media into a frenzy and gained massive popularity all over the world and it even inspired musicians in Bengal as well.
