Go First flight cancellation extended till 24 June citing operational reasons

Crisis-hit airline Go First on Monday has further extended its flight cancellation. The airline said that scheduled flight operations will remain cancelled till 24 June due to operational reasons. Earlier, the flights were cancelled till June 19.

“We regret to inform that due to operational reasons, Go First flights scheduled till 24th June 2023 have been cancelled. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the flight cancellations,” Go First said in a tweet. “We acknowledge the flight cancellations might have disrupted your travel plans and we are committed to providing all the assistance we can,” they said in a letter.

The letter further said that the company has filed an application for immediate resolution and revival of operations.

“As you are aware, the company has filed an application for immediate resolution and revival of operations. We will be able to resume bookings shortly,” it added in its letter.

Prior to that 15 June, the carrier announced that its scheduled flight operations will remain cancelled till June 19. The airline operator had in early May filed for voluntary insolvency and since then its operations were kept stalled.

Earlier it was also reported that the carrier could resume flight operations by the end of June. The indication came as the National Company Law Tribunal approved the appointment of Shailendra Ajmera as Go First’s Resolution Professional.

According to a CNBC-TV18, NCLT had directed the new Interim Resolution Profession to respond to concerns raised by the aircraft lessors. While the lessors had raised no objections to the change. However the lessors contended that the IRP had so far made no efforts to maintain the aircrafts.

Another report by Bloomberg quoting sources also said that the company was hoping to restore 94 percent of its daily flights by the end of June.

Earlier this month, the airline had submitted a revival plan to the DGCA under which it has proposed to resume operations with a fleet of 26 aircraft — 22 for active operations and 4 in reserve — and 152 daily flights.

The airline, which rebranded as Go First about two years ago, controls 6.4 percent of the Indian aviation market. Despite recent losses Go First reportedly still has more than 500 pilots — enough to fly some 30 planes — and doesn’t need to immediately hire more.
