Gary Ballance achieves rare feat, becomes second player to score centuries for two countries | Cricket News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Zimbabwe’s Gary Ballance achieved a rare feat on Tuesday as he became only the second Test batter after Kepler Wessels to score a century for two countries.
Ballance, who is playing his first Test for Zimbabwe, remained unbeaten on 137 as Zimbabwe declared their first innings at 370/9 against the West Indies (447/6 decl) on the fourth day of the first Test in Bulawayo.

Representing England, Harare-born Ballance scored four tons during the last decade before returning home to make his Test debut for Zimbabwe in this match.
South Africa-born Wessels hit four centuries for Australia before returning home and making two more for his homeland when they were readmitted to Test cricket in the 1990s.

Ballance and leggie Brandon Mavuta, who scored 56, added crucial 135 runs for the eighth-wicket in an outstanding partnership to deny West Indies follow-on at the Queens Sports Club.
