Former Celtic star ruled out of Rangers clash after Lyon injury blow
FORMER Celtic defender Jason Denayer has been ruled out of the Europa League clash with Rangers after sustaining a sprained ankle.
The Belgian is set to be sidelined for up to two months as he receives treatment on the injury that he picked up during the Ligue 1 clash with Bordeaux at the weekend.
Denayer was on the scoresheet as Peter Bosz’s side twice took the lead but were unable to hold out for victory on the eve of their final Group A fixture at home to Rangers.
The champions make the trip to France this week already secured of their place in the knockout rounds and boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst will have one eye on the Premiership showdown with Hearts on Sunday.
And Lyon have now confirmed that Denayer will not be fit to face the Light Blues as he prepares for a spell on the sidelines that will keep him out of action into the New Year.
A club statement read: “Olympique Lyonnais announce that Jason Denayer, who was taken off in the 44th of the match in Bordeaux [on Sunday] night, has suffered a sprained right ankle.
“Examinations taken on Monday on the Belgian international defender revealed a sprained ankle which will be treated orthopedically by OL’s medical team.
“The length of his unavailability is estimated at approximately two months.”
