FM Nirmala Sitharaman chairs post-budget meeting with stakeholders, says Digital technology is key for development

Digital technology is the key for development, said Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman while chairing a post-budget meeting with stakeholders from trade and industry in Guwahati today.

Underscoring the importance of digital technology, the Finance Minister said that our country has the required soft skills and it will give us the necessary push so that we can leverage the various innovative ways and techniques. India can lead and can be on the top of the curve by using digital technology in different sectors. The Finance Minister added that digital technology will also help in the medical tourism sector and people in the far-flung areas of the country can get education through the digital systems as it would provide greater access.

The Union Minister said that the PM GatiShakti will guide us in infrastructure  planning, investment, and coordination as it has a broader spirit and philosophy

Ms. Sitharaman said that India should get ready for the next 25 years by using technology in various sectors and informed that there will be 75 banking units in the country including digital currency. The Union Minister also informed that the country is moving towards natural farming from the traditional method and here also digital technology can be used for better farming and marketing.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State for Finance Dr. Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad; Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Secretary, Department of Financial Services; Shri Ajay Seth, Secretary, Department of Economic Affairs; Tarun Bajaj, Secretary Revenue, T.V. Somanathan, Secretary, Finance & Department of Expenditure and Dr. V. Anantha Nageswaran, Chief Economic Adviser.
