‘Feral’ Macca’s hack that’s divided the internet

By now you’re probably familiar with a Macca’s hack or two – from making your own Biscoff McFlurry to how mixing your thickshake with a coffee shot is the “best ever” combination.

McDonald’s tricks and tips are most popular on TikTok, where videos showing them off have attracted hundreds of thousands of views.

Cake Mail founder Jonathan Massaad often shares hacks for the fast food giant on his TikTok, previously sharing how he makes sure to always get fresh fries.

The Sydney foodie told news.com.au that he “always like to experiment with Macca’s products”.

On Wednesday he posted a video of his latest trick – a chicken McNuggets pie, with Jonathan straight-up acknowledging that it wasn’t for everyone.

“Here’s another Macca’s hack that you may not like – order an apple pie and three McNuggets,” he said in the video.

Get your apple pie and cut the end off, eat all the apple out of the apple pie. Put it (nuggets) inside the apple pie.”

Jonathan dunked his pie-nuggets hybrid in sweet and sour sauce before taking a bit, adding: “Honestly, that is the best way to eat your chicken nuggets, it’s so crunchy … please try it.”

“The apple pie is iconic so I thought to combine it with chicken nuggets to add a savoury element to the iconic crispy crust,” he told news.com.au.

“I have been doing this for a while now. I genuinely think it just adds something else to chicken nuggets.”

The video got more than 138,000 views, however, people were not convinced the combination of apple pie crust and McNuggets was a winner.

“Don’t ever do this again,” one person wrote.

“I’m so scared,” another commented.

Some joked that he was “being held hostage” and to “blink twice if you need help”, while another said the combination had to be “feral”.

But not everyone hated the hack, with some saying they were keen on giving it a go.

“I can see this being decent. Maybe without the sauce though,” one person commented.

“I wanna try that,” another commented.

Jonathan told news.com.au he had laughed off the negative comments.

“There is always going to be controversy when it comes to food hacks,” he said. “Ultimately people are hesitant to try new combinations, including sweet and savoury together.”
