‘Boehly should have kept his mouth SHUT!’: Fans rip into Chelsea owner after he boldly predicted the Blues would beat Real Madrid 3-0… only for Frank Lampard’s side to slip to a 2-0 defeat
Chelsea owner Todd Boehly got his pre-match prediction for his side’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid badly wrong, and fans weren’t in the mood to let him off the hook.
The Blues travelled to the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday evening looking to pull off an upset against the defending champions in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
Despite Chelsea enduring a bitterly disappointing campaign and sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League, Boehly was still very optimistic ahead of kick-off.
When asked what he thought the score would be, Boehly told Sky Sports News: ‘Chelsea’s going to win 3-0!’
However, his prediction looked far from accurate once the game got underway, and Madrid cruised to a comfortable 2-0 win thanks to goals from Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio, while Ben Chilwell was sent off for the visitors.

After watching their team lose convincingly, a number of Chelsea fans were bemused by Boehly’s comments and took to social media to vent their frustration.
‘Boehly should have kept his mouth shut earlier talking ’bout 3-0 lmao,’ one fan posted on Twitter.
Another added: ‘Todd Boehly really said we’re going to win 3-0 just to watch us get completely and utterly outclassed by Madrid.’
‘But no really, why did Boehly tell national TV that we’d win 3-0?’ another supporter asked.
Meanwhile, one fan turned to sarcasm in the aftermath of the loss, writing: ‘Boehly was close with his 3-0 prediction.’
The American owner has made a number of questionable decisions in his first year at Stamford Bridge, sacking Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter within the space of seven months.
He has also spent in excess of £600million on players, only to watch Chelsea slide down the table this term.

One supporter felt Boehly’s bold prediction was just another example of him showing his naivety when it comes to running a football club.
They wrote: ‘Todd Boehly going around saying we’re going to win 3-0 tonight. Football slowly being ruined by these rich eejits who haven’t a clue about the game!’
Boehly’s confidence in getting a result proved to be misplaced, and Frank Lampard’s men now have a huge mountain to climb if they are going to turn the tie around and progress to the semi-finals.
They look set to end the season without a trophy after a torrid first year since Boehly took over the club from Roman Abramovich.
