The Bachchan clan is vast to say the least. Besides the aforementioned including Shweta Bachchan Nanda, Agastya Nanda, and Aaradhya Bachchan, there is a host of talented members who are not often in the limelight and little information is available about them in the public domain. In today’s edition of ETimes BFFs (Big Filmy Families), we take you through Big B’s big family tree.

Harivanshrai Bachchan
Big B’s father Harivanshrai Bachchan is well known writer and is popular for his groundbreaking work in Hindi poetry. He got married to Shyama in 1926 who died after ten years of marriage. Later, he married Teji Bachchan in 1941 and had two sons, Amitabh and Ajitabh.
Teji Bachchan
Amitabh’s mother Teji was a social activist who taught psychology before her marriage. She became a homemaker after her wedding, but had a keen interest in stage shows. She played lady Macbeth in Harivanshrai’s Hindi adaptation of Macbeth. She also had a cameo appearance in Kabhi Kabhie.

Amitabh Bachchan
Known as the Shahenshah of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan has ruled the Hindi film industry for over five decades. He began his film career as a narrator in Mrinal Sen’s Bhuvan Shome in 1969. Soon he gained popularity with films like Zanjeer, Deewar, Sholay, Amar Akbar Anthony, Don, Coolie, Abhimaan, Silsila, Agneepath among many others. He is the only actor to have won four National Film Awards. He also appeared in Hollywood film The Great Gatsby. he is a multi-talented artiste who left his mark even as a playback singer, producer, and television presenter. He even ventured into politics. He married Jaya Bachchan in 1993 and they have two kids – Shweta and Abhishek.
Jaya Bachchan
Jaya Bachchan made her Bollywood debut as a teenager in Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar in the year 1963. Her first screen appearance was in the film Guddi in 1971. She is known for her role in films like Uphaar, Zanjeer, Abhimaan, Chupke Chupke, Kora Kaagaz and the cult film Sholay. She took a sabbatical from films after the birth of her kids, and returned to films with Govind Nihalani’s Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa. She too ventured into politics and is a Rajya Sabha MP from the Samajwadi Party. She was recently seen in Karan Johar’s film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.

Shweta Bachchan Nanda
Amitabh and Jaya’s elder child Shweta Bachchan is a former model turned author and columnist. In 2018, she launched her own fashion label. In 1997, she married businessman Nikhil Nanda who is the son of Raj Kapoor’s daughter Ritu Nanda. They have two kids – Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda.
Navya Naveli Nanda
Amitabh’s granddaughter Navya Naveli is a women’s rights advocate and an entrepreneur. She founded a non-profit initiative Project Naveli that supports gender equality in India and focusses on education, healthcare and financial independence. She is also the co-founder of Aara Health. Navya entered showbiz with her own podcast What The Hell Navya? that also featured Jaya Bachchan and Shweta Bachchan.

Agastya Nanda
Amitabh and Jaya’s grandson Agastya Nanda is ready to make a splash with his Bollywood debut in Zoya Akhtar’s musical The Archies. the film also stars Suhana Khan, Khushi Kapoor, Vedang Raina, Mihir Ahuja, Dot. and Yuvraj Menda among others.
Abhishek Bachchan
Abhishek made his Bollywood debut alongside Kareena Kapoor with Refugee in the year 2000. After a string of not so successful films, Abhishek found his claim to fame with Dhoom in 2004. Since then he has received critical acclaim for several films like Yuva, Sarkar, Bunty Aur Babli, Guru, Dus among others. In 2009, he won a National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for producing Paa. He ventured into digital space with Breathe: Into the Shadows, Ludo and Dasvi. He married actress Aishwarya Rai in 2007 and they have a daughter named Aaradhya.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan
Beauty queen Aishwarya Rai won the Miss World title in 1994. After a series of modelling assignments, Ash entered films with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil movie Iruvar in 1997. Her Bollywood debut was Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya opposite Bobby Deol in the same year. Since then she has acted in numerous films and won several accolades. Some of her best work in Hindi include Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas, Guzaarish, Mohabbatein, Dhoom 2, Guru, Taal, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil to name a few. She was recently seen in Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan: I and II.
Ajitabh Bachchan
Amitabh’s brother Ajitabh Bachchan is a businessman who stayed away from the spotlight and lived in London. His estranged wife Ramola Bachchan is a socialite, entrepreneur, lawyer, and public relations officer. They have four kids together – Bhim, Naina, Nilima and Namrata.
Bhim Bachchan
Away from the spotlight like his father, Bhim is an investment banker, who was settled in NYC. However, he later relocated to India and shuffles between Mumbai and Delhi.
Naina Bachchan
Like brother Bhim, Naina too started off her career as an investment banker but later ventured into acting in plays. That is how she met actor Kunal Kapoor in Delhi whom she married in 2015 after dating for years. They welcomed a baby boy in 2022.
Nilima Bachchan
Nilima has a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering from the UK.
Namrita Bachchan
Namrita studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and Parsons in New York where she was formally trained as a painter, a printmaker, and also a graphic designer.
