England manager Ian Foster plans to name his squad for the under-20s World Cup on Wednesday with uncertainty over whether several key players will make it to the tournament.

Clubs have the final say on whether their players will be allowed to go to the prestigious competition in Argentina which starts on May 20.

Four players being considered by Foster may be needed for play-off finals dependent on semi-final results while others have been used by their clubs in the Premier League which also has runs beyond England’s opening game with Tunisia on May 22.

Manchester United have already told hosts Argentina they couldn’t call up Alejandro Garnacho.

Coventry City pair Callum Doyle and Brooke Norton-Cuffy, on loan from Manchester City and Arsenal respectively, are hoping to win promotion into the Premier League, and Middlesbrough also hope their Aston Villa loanee Aaron Ramsey will recover from injury to take part in the play-offs.

Among the Premier League clubs who have to allow their young stars to try and follow suit are Chelsea with Carney Chukwueka, Southampton who used their under-20s player Sam Edozie against Nottingham Forest on Monday and Leeds (Mateo Joseph).

In Europe, Sam Iling-Junior (Juventus) and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens (Borussia Dortmund) also need club approval. Both have played first-team football this season.
