Delhi Weather: Surprise fog hits flight operations; many diverted. Check for latest updates

Several flights were diverted in Delhi due to low visibility conditions. Delhi residents woke up to find parts of the city enveloped in dense fog and this led to the disruption of many flight operations in the city. Many flights were also delayed by 20-40 minutes at a time.

Delhi Airport authorities initiated low visibility protocols at around 6:30 am today morning. In the list of flights that were disrupted, there were at least four from Vistara Airlines and this disruption affected both domestic and international flights that were due to land in New Delhi.

Vistara Airlines in a series of tweets warned users to be mindful of these flight disruptions and possible changes in the flight plans. Flights that were travelling to Delhi from Frankfurt, Chennai and Hyderabad were also diverted to other cities.

IndiGo said in a tweet said, that due to the bad weather conditions, some flight from Delhi were disrupted, with both flight departures and arrivals both being affected. The airline urged fliers to check their flight status ahead of time.

The minimum and maximum temperature in Delhi hovered well above normal for the season. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature in Delhi had settled seven notches above normal at 31.4 degrees Celsius, a day after the mercury soared to a record high.

On Monday, Delhi recorded the third hottest day in February since 1969, with the maximum temperature soaring to 33.6 degrees Celsius as recorded by the Safdarjung observatory, the national capital’s primary weather station. The reading was nine notches above normal.

On Tuesday morning, the minimum temperature was logged at 16.1 degrees Celsius, five notches above normal. Delhi registered a low of 13.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season’s average, on Monday.

Delhi’s air quality, meanwhile, was recorded in the ‘poor’ category on Tuesday with the air quality index (AQI) reading 262 at 9 pm.
