Deepika Padukone on her parents reaction to ‘Gehraiyaan’, says, ‘it was hard to digest for them, as it felt personal’ – Times of India
Speaking of which, the actress recently opened up about how her family perceived her character. She revealed that her role was a bit difficult for them to digest as it felt personal.
In an interview with NDTV, the actress shares, it was a bit hard to digest for her family on a personal level. Elaborating further, she says, her family has seen up close and personal with her that she feels it was difficult for them to go through that.
The film also spoke about mental health in the most realistic way. ‘I think what they truly appreciated was my performance and also the way mental illness and mental health were depicted in the film, these were the two big takeaways,” shared the actress.
Earlier, reflecting on her character, Deepika had also admitted that she didn’t agree with some of the choices Alisha made in the film, however wanted to portray her as someone viewers could relate to and not judge.
In an interview with a news portal, the actress spoke that the idea of this film was ‘more observational’, and having said that, one as an individual might or might not agree or accept the choices that characters like these make but that doesn’t mean they don’t exist.
She says, it’s not necessary to agree with all the choices, but as an actor, one must step out of that lens of judgement and humanise this character. The actor also mentioned that historically, films tend to judge characters that indulge in infidelity, something that ‘Gehraiyaan’ has tried to move past.
Recently, Deepika penned a gratitude note for her fans for showering love on ‘Gehraiyaan’. Sharing some of the stills from the film, she wrote, “The response to Gehraiyaan has been dizzying to say the least! ‘Alisha’ has been my most visceral, indelible, and delicious experience as an artist. While I am ecstatic and overwhelmed, I am also truly grateful and humbled!????????”
