Dear Naseeruddin Shah, disrespecting Filmfare Awards is hardly a sign of greatness | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Every cineaste in India loves and respects Naseeruddin Shah. It therefore comes as an embarrassment and shock to hear him speak before thinking while promoting his new series on the Moghul dynasty which portrays Akbar as a buffoon and a debauch.

It hardly behoves an actor of Naseer saab’s stature to be part of this crude serial. We nonetheless respect his choices. If Robert de Niro can do Bringing Up Father, why can’t Naseer do what he is doing? They both have a kitchen to run.
But making disparaging comments about any and everything at the promotional events is more suited to starlets and strugglers, desperate to be noticed.
Naseer saab’s remark that he uses his Filmfare trophies as door handles in the washroom of his farmhouse is just a crude attempt at generating shock value.
An actor who has worked closely with Naseer saab says the actor-extraordinaire has been frustrated for years. “He feels commercial cinema has never given him his due. He also feels non-mainstream cinema took him for granted. Toh woh na idhar ke rahe na udhar ke. He has watched inferior actors race past him for decades. It has made him extremely bitter and enraged. Still, this doesn’t give him the liberty to make fun of the recognition that he has got.”
The comments on the Filmfare awards are especially unsavoury, as he was awarded for three of his finest performances in Aakrosh, Chakra and Masoom while the National Awards ignored all these three performances.

So dare we say that if Naseer saab accuses the nation of being Islamophobic, then he in turn could be accused of being awards-phobic?
