NRL and Cronulla Sharks star Nicho Hynes has bought a stunning $2.17 million property in the south of Sydney where he hopes to live ‘forever’ with his mother Julie.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom home not only offers luxurious living for Hynes but also includes self-contained accommodation next to the pool for his mum.

Hynes, who was controversially axed from the NSW team for State of Origin II, bounced back with a starring role in the Sharks’ big win over the Bulldogs on Sunday.

His new property is a renovated 1950s home that was sold pre-auction through Rhiff and Michael Larkings at Location Real Estate Sales & Consulting.

The single-level home, set on 575 square metres, features a living room separated from the kitchen and dining space by a two-way fireplace.

Both areas open to an alfresco space, complete with a swimming pool and spa.

Hynes’ mother Julie will be living in the self-contained accommodation on the property.

She was found guilty of drug supply related to a family friend’s heroin overdose at her home in 2021.

As part of her sentence, she must live in the granny flat in Cronulla for at least two years, though Nicho has expressed his willingness for it to be a permanent arrangement.

‘She’s going to stay with me forever now,’ the Cronulla Sharks player told Judge David Wilson during his mother’s sentencing hearing.

Outside court, he said he’s keen to put his mother’s troubled history behind him.

‘I’m very happy to move past this now and bring my mum home and look after her, and put her into a community that looks after me and will look after her,’ he said.

‘I’m really looking forward to her being the generous and loving person I know she is.’

Before moving into his new home, Hynes had been renting a garden apartment in the Sun Deck complex on Cronulla Beach for around $800 per week.

The apartment was recently put up for rent at $870 a week through Kayla Graham and Hollie Hayward of Highland Property.

Hynes’ commitment to the Cronulla Sharks was further solidified in April when he signed a contract extension until 2029, despite not being off contract until after the 2024 season.

‘I never thought I’d sign a long-term contract in the NRL, one that’s hopefully going to set up my life and my family as well,’ Hynes said on the contract extension.

‘This whole town, whole community has welcomed me and I can never picture putting on another jersey.

Club chair Steve Mace praised Hynes’ dedication to the club and his seamless integration into the Cronulla and Sutherland Shire communities.

‘Nicho loves the club, has fit seamlessly into Cronulla and the Sutherland Shire and enjoys the lifestyle the area offers.’
