Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 announced, designed to offer better drop protection – Times of India

Corning, the company known for making Gorilla Glass protective glass layer for smartphones and other devices, has announced its latest standard of the protective glass expanding its Gorilla Glass portfolio. Dubbed Gorilla Glass Victus 2, it comes as the successor to the Gorilla Glass Victus launched a couple of years go.
Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 offers better protection against rougher surfaces
The new protective glass, according to the company, offers improved drop performance on rough surfaces like concrete while retaining the scratch-resistant capabilities of the original Victus glass.
Corning says that their research has shown that 84% of consumers across three of the largest smartphone markets – China, India, and the United States look for durability as their purchasing decision.
The bigger the device screen gets diagonally, there’s more chance of it getting heavier and difficult to handle and prone to break. Corning says, that they wanted to create a glass that can survive rough surfaces like concrete and also improve the cover-glass performance for larger and heavier devices. According to Corning, “today’s smartphones are nearly 15% heavier, and screen sizes are up to 10% larger, than they were four years ago – increasing both the stress on the cover glass and the probability of damage. Gorilla Glass Victus 2 redefines tough for consumers and OEMs.”
According to Corning, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 survived drops of up to one meter on a surface replicating concrete. The company also claims that competitive cover glasses from other manufacturers failed when dropped from half a meter or less. Apart from this, Gorilla Glass Victus 2 continued to survive drops up to two meters on a surface replicating asphalt and maintained scratch resistance up to four times better than competitive aluminosilicate.
Gorilla Glass Victus 2 is currently being evaluated by multiple customers and is expected to reach the market within the next few months.
