Cirkus box office day 4: Rohit Shetty’s film records 60 percent drop on Monday – Times of India

Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty’s pair which created an impact in movies like Simmba and Sooryavanshi has hit a roadblock with their latest release Cirkus. The film has been panned by the critics and the audience reactions have been equally dismal. Most trade pundits were expecting the film to show a major drop on Monday box office collections, but the box office update for the film’s 4th day has caught even the most informed trade sources unawares.

Most experts had predicted a 50 per cent drop for Cirkus collections on Monday but the numbers dropped by 60 per cent and as the film only managed to collect 2.75 crore nett collections on the first day of the week. In a silver lining, these collections were done despite the holdover releases showing good business and the period between Christmas and New Year is conducive for releases. The holdover releases – Avatar: The Way Of Water and Drishyam 2, both recorded upward trends in their Monday collections, while Cirkus was seen coming down heavily.

A report in BoxOffice India suggested, “The four day collections of the film are 23.50 crore nett and it may well be a first week in the 30 crore nett range, unless it holds at these levels as the big drop has come on Monday, which may might lead to a little more than 30 crore nett. But it is all pretty much irrelevant because it makes no difference to the result of the film.”

Industry experts also revealed that the film is showing is doing better in Maharashtra than other states. While comedies do well in Gujarat and Saurashtra belt, Cirkus has been totally rejected in these markets. The final break-up for Cirkus’ four day box office receipts is as follows:

Friday – 6,50,00,000 apprx

Saturday – 6,25,00,000 apprx

Sunday – 8,00,00,000 apprx

Monday – 2,75,00,000 apprx

With a tally of 23.5 crores over four days, Ranveer Singh and Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus is being considered a flop at the box office.
