Chocolate chip… your teeth? Trader Joe’s recalls two types of cookies because they may contain chunks of ROCK

Two types of cookies from Trader Joe’s have been recalled nationwide for fears they may contain rocks.

The grocery chain announced the recall on Friday of its Almond Windmill Cookies and Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies, stating that they may contain foreign material, rocks.

The recall affects Almond Windmill Cookies with ‘sell by’ dates from October 19, 2023, to October 21, 2023, and Dark Chocolate Chunk  and Almond Cookies with a ‘sell by’ date from October 17, 2023, to October 21, 2023.

It’s unclear how rocks may have gotten into the cookies, what kind of rocks they were, or how many products actually contained them.

Chewing rocks could lead to detrimental health effects.

For one, hard, non-food objects like that could chip teeth or cause them to fall out entirely.

Rocks also aren’t meant to be digested, so swallowing them could lead to an intestinal blockage or tear. Left untreated, an intestinal blockage could result in tissue death, as it cut off blood supply to the intestine, or infection, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Any affected products were taken off shelves and destroyed.

‘If you purchased or received any donations of Almond Windmill Cookies and/or Dark Chocolate Chunk and Almond Cookies, please do not eat them,’ the company said.

The products can be returned to any Trader Joe’s location for a full refund.
