Chelsea and USA winger Christian Pulisic ‘agrees a long-term deal with AC Milan’

Christian Pulisic’s expected Chelsea exit has moved closer after the USA star reportedly agreed a long-term deal in principle with AC Milan.

The 24-year-old winger had a hugely difficult and disappointing season with Chelsea and it’s no secret that he’s set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

His next destination appears to be Serie A giants Milan after they reached an agreement on a long-term contract, although the transfer fee needs to be worked out, ESPN reported. 

The outlet claims Pulisic will take a significant pay cut while the two clubs need to agree the fee.

Chelsea are holding out for $27.3million while Milan are wanting to pay no more than $19.6m.

With Milan preparing for a sizeable windfall with the planned departure of star midfielder Sandro Tonali to Newcastle, the Serie A side are looking to bolster their ranks with a raft of attacking talent. 

Pulisic’s team-mate, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, became the fourth Chelsea player to leave during this summer’s window, following moves for N’Golo Kante and Kalidou Koulibaly to the Saudi Pro League, and Mateo Kovacic’s signing for Manchester City on Tuesday evening.  

The American has just one year left on his contract, meaning Chelsea run the risk of losing him for nothing next year should he not depart this summer. 

Pulisic made the move from Borussia Dortmund to Chelsea for $72m back in January 2019. 

His time at the Premier League club has been hindered by injuries, unable to really nail down a regular place in the starting XI, and the most recent season was no different.

He netted just one goal and provided two assists in 30 appearances. He started just eight times in the Premier League as he fell out of favor.

He has been heavily linked with a move to Serie A with AC, Juventus and Napoli all interested. 

Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester United and Newcastle were touted as possible landing spots as well. 

Pulisic is part of a summer exodus following Chelsea’s abysmal season and the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino as owner Todd Boehly’s fourth manager. 

Pulisic was booed on to the pitch by Chelsea fans during their final game of the season last month.

American star Pulisic was jeered when brought on late in Chelsea’s 1-1 tie with Newcastle 

He came off the substitutes’ bench with just minutes left, replacing Noni Madueke, but was jeered by some sections of the home support in the 1-1 tie with Newcastle.

It left Chelsea all the way down in 12th to bring the curtain down on their turbulent 2022-23 campaign – the first season under the ownership of Boehly. 

Pulisic played his part in Chelsea’s Champions League glory two years ago, coming on as a substitute in the 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Porto final.

He had scored an important goal in the first leg of the semifinal against Real Madrid, while also setting up Mason Mount to make it 2-0 in the return game.

Pulisic netted a brace in their CONCACAF Nations League semi-final tie against Mexico earlier this month, before captaining the side to victory against Canada to claim their second consecutive title.
