Chalo in talks to acquire two-wheeler rental startup Vogo
The development follows
Chalo’s acquisition of Amazon-backed Shuttl, a bus service for office goers, last month and after the pandemic disrupted the mobility industry in the country.
Vogo, with the majority of its presence in cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru, has been impacted by the pandemic too. “They are in the final stages of closing the deal,” a person aware of the matter said.
Last month, Chalo
raised $40 million in a funding round led by Lightrock India and Filter Capital. Vogo’s backers include ride-hailing firm Ola, venture funds Stellaris Venture Partners and Matrix Partners India.
When contacted, Chalo cofounder Dhruv Chopra declined to comment on the matter while Vogo founder Anand Ayyadurai didn’t immediately respond to messages sent by ET.
In a recent conversation with ET in September, Ayyadurai had said its Hyderabad operations
had turned profitable and the company was aiming to do the same in Bengaluru in the coming months. A third of its operations was in Hyderabad with a fleet of 20,000.

Chalo powered 20 million bus rides in September, the company said in a press statement last month. It has around 15,000 buses live on its platform and a presence in 31 cities across Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Assam, among other states. Besides its acquisitions and investments in technology, the startup also plans to expand internationally.
