Canadian Brooke Henderson one off lead at Women’s World Championship

Canada’s Brooke Henderson is one shot back of the lead at the halfway mark of the HSBC Women’s World Championship in Singapore.

Henderson, from Smiths Falls, Ont., shot a 4-under 68 on Friday to put her one stroke behind leaders Amy Yang and Jin Young Ko of South Korea, who sit at 8 under through 36 holes of the LPGA Tour event.

“I felt like I hit it really well and I gave myself some good birdie looks. It was nice to cash in I guess on five birdies, and unfortunately one bogey,” Henderson said after her round.

“But, yeah, happy with how I’m playing the last two days. … And just excited to play the weekend.”

Atthaya Thitikul of Thailand and Megan Khang of the United States are tied with Henderson at 7 under.

The 24-year-old Canadian is off to a strong start this year, finishing second, tied for sixth and tied for 11th in her three events to date.

“In the off-season I really worked diligently with my dad (Dave), who’s also my coach, and my sister (Brittany), who’s also my caddie, and we just tried to make some improvements in pretty much all areas of the game, but especially on the short game,” Henderson said.

“And so far it’s been paying off really nicely. So it’s nice to see when hard work pays off. It’s a long season, so it’s a nice start, but I hopefully just keep it going.”

Henderson has 10 career victories, most of any Canadian pro golfer on a top tour.
