Broncos hire new QB coach to work with 34-year-old Russell Wilson and it’s Giants backup Davis Webb

Broncos hire a new QB coach to work with 34-year-old Russell Wilson following abysmal season… and it’s 28-year-old Giants backup Davis Webb!

The Denver Broncos have hired 28-year-old veteran quarterback Davis Webb to be the teams new QB coach, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Webb spent last season as the New York Giants backup playing behind Daniel Jones and has spent the majority of his career as a backup, if not even lower on the depth of an NFL team.

Davis was originally taken by the Giants in the third round in 2017 and also spent time with the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills before eventually returning to the Giants.

Webb was reportedly offered the chance to go straight from playing to coaching last season by the Bills, but rejected the offer in order to return to New York as a player.

Schefter noted that Webb would ‘consider making the jump to coaching for the right opportunity,’ was offered the chance to return to the Giants in January but rejected the opportunity.

It appears the chance to coach 34-year-old Russell Wilson, as he attempts to rebound from what was by far one of the worst season of his stellar career.

Wilson finished last season with only 3,524 yards to go with a career low 16 touchdowns.

He also had a career low completion percentage of 60.5 percent and tied the second most interceptions of his career with 11.

The Broncos finished the season 5-12 and fired head coach Nathaniel Hackett midway through his first season in charge after coming into the season as a team that was expected to be in Super Bowl contention following the blockbuster trade that saw Wilson join the team from the Seattle Seahawks last off season.

It also appears that Wilson and the Broncos staff will be without starting running back Javonte Williams, after report emerged from ESPN’s Jeff Legwold stating that Williams could miss games well into 2023 as a result of the serious knee injury that ended his season early.

Williams tore both the ACL and MCL in his right knee while playing against the Las Vegas Raiders on October 2nd.
