It’s been a trying season so far for the Denver Broncos, as new quarterback Russell Wilson is taking more time than initially expected to get the team’s offense going and running in style.

However, a good portion of fans ran out of patience with the 33-year-old newcomer as some of them headed towards the exits at the end of Thursday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

With the game tied at 9-9, a flock of fans wearing orange and blue were recorded leaving Mile High with five seconds on the clock.

And two minutes earlier, Wilson killed the Broncos’ chances for a late touchdown after throwing an intercepted pass to the end zone, as Colts Stephan Gilmore caught the football to take the game into overtime.

So, can Denver fans be to blame for walking out on their team’s poor performance in what is supposed to be the most exciting time period in a close football game?

Some of them would say that they’ve made the right decision as Wilson and Co. lost to a Colts field goal (12-9 in OT), with neither of the two teams scoring a touchdown in a game consisted of seven field goals.

‘Why would they punish us by giving us overtime?,’ former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho asked on Twitter.

‘The fans still in the stands are only there for the drinks,’ former Washington Redskins QB Robert Griffin III joked.

‘#Broncos fans leaving a home game heading to overtime is one of the craziest things I’ve ever seen in an #NFL football game,’ Charles Robinson, NFL reporter for Yahoo Sports!, tweeted.

‘Those Broncos fans leaving deserve public shaming,’ another Twitter user shared on social media.

‘America watching the Colts and Broncos game right now,’ read a caption of a tweet of a tired Ben Affleck smoking a cigarette outside in relief.

‘So many Broncos fans gotta be p****d they didn’t leave at the end of regulation with the rest of ’em,’ tweeted a sports fan jokingly implying fans who left made the right call.

‘Broncos fans, this is a safe place. Air it out,’ a social media influencer posted, saying Twitter is a safe space for Denver supporters to let out their frustration after the loss.

‘Broncos fans need to chill with the victim act here. Walk a mile in some other shoes,’ Around The NFL host Dan Hanzus tweeted, visibly not amused by the lack of home support at the end of regulation at Mile High.

Stephon Gilmore, of the Colts, batted away Wilson’s pass to Courtland Sutton in the end zone on fourth-and-1 from the 5 to give Indianapolis the win after his team first converted a field goal to take the lead 12-9 in OT.

The Colts came in averaging 14.3 points a game, the lowest in 37-year-old QB Matt Ryan’s 16-year career, and the Broncos entered the night averaging 16.5 points, the worst in Wilson’s 11-year career.

The Colts host the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, October 16, and the Broncos visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night, October 17.
