One family faced a long night after one of their boys threw away a game baseball – until the Boston Red Sox came to the rescue.
The TV broadcast caught the moment during the New York Yankees’ double header against their rivals on Sunday.
After being given a foul ball by a nearby fan sitting just in front of him, the young man – Charlie Mulligan – launched the ball back onto the field.
His brother Jack was left distraught at what his sibling had done, while their father Pat was also left in disbelief.
Both children crumbled into their dad’s arms unhappy on Father’s Day.

After seeing what happened the Boston team saved the day for the Mulligan family by gifting them signed baseballs and jerseys.
‘Are you mad at him now?’ commentator Will Middlebrooks jokingly asked as the camera showed Jack receiving the items.
‘He was very excited to get the ball, but so excited that he made a nice throw out to left field,’ Pat Mulligan told NESN.
‘His brother was a little upset, but we’re recovering, and everyone is being so nice. Our friend Mike there is the one who gave us the ball, so we’re awfully grateful to everybody for being so nice.’
‘It’s a lot of fun every time we come and he (Jack) loves baseball, and we love this place. Thanks for being so nice to us.’
Boston would go on to win the first game of the double header 6-2.
Connor Wong and Alex Verdugo hit consecutive RBI doubles off the Green Monster with two outs in a three-run sixth inning, while Adam Duvall and Justin Turner each added an RBI single for the Red Sox, who also won series opener 15-5 on Friday and improved to 4-1 against their hated rival.
‘It’s fun when you can light up the scoreboard,’ Duvall said. ‘We had that big game a couple of days ago. We were able to put some runs up on the board today. I feel like we’re starting to drive the baseball.’
