At age 71, the New England Patriots’ longtime emperor Bill Belichick has not lost his knack for short, dry press conferences – but this time, he injected some wit when asked about his team’s cancelled OTA’s.

The Patriots were docked two days of ‘optional team activities’ for violating league rules – leaving New England with a nice extended vacation from May 25, through Memorial Day weekend, and continued through Tuesday until finally going back to work on Wednesday.

Belichick, the notorious football-focused workaholic, had a surprisingly glib reply when asked about how he spend those days off.

‘Had a good long weekend,’ the longtime head coach told reporters.

The Pats lost those two days after players spent more then the league-allowed time at team facilities.

Reportedly, former Giants coach Joe Judge was responsible for the infraction in his second year back with New England – keeping players at special teams meetings longer than allowed, according to the Boston Sports Journal.

But Belichick deflected blame from his assistant coach – putting all the responsibility on his shoulders.

‘The whole situation is in the past. It’s resolved and we’ve moved on,’ Belichick said – later adding, ‘I’m responsible for it. That’s it.’

Belichick, entering his 24th season in New England, was also fined $50,000 by the league.

When asked what Judge’s role is with the team, Belichick replied, ‘He’ll do whatever I ask him to do. It might change from time to time, he’ll be involved in a lot of things.

‘Joe is great. Smart guy, got a lot of experience. Do whatever we need him to do, and he can do a lot. So he will.’
