Behold: The Ugg Sofa Has Arrived

Here’s a universal and undeniable truth about Uggs: they’re comfortable. Like, a choir-of-fuzzy-angels-are-currently-enveloping-your-feet comfortable. So when the brand asked Crosby Studio’s Harry Nuriev to design their first ever piece of furniture—an Ugg sofa—he knew this distinct coziness had to be a starting point.

“Everything was based on the concept of how to feel like Uggs,” Nuriev tells Vogue. First: the color. Nuriev opted for a chestnut brown—the same shade as their classic bestselling boot. Then, he adorned the couch in a sumptuous velvet, serving as a tactile reminder of the signature Ugg sheepskin. Finally, he covered the boxy silhouette in footprints—including one in hot pink “to add a little splash of color.” (Hot pink, as every early aughts tween knows, is a very important color within the Ugg aesthetic arsenal.) A final visual touch? The distinctive Ugg exterior seams, which became an abstract motif across the couch. The result is a creative (and very plushy) piece that embodies the Ugg aesthetic in an entirely new medium.

The Ugg Couch by Crosby Studio will be on display at Ugg’s flagship store during New York Fashion Week. “We are honored to partner with the creative minds of Crosby Studios to translate the undeniable comfort of the Ugg into beautiful furniture pieces,” says Lindsey Dicola Dashoff, Senior Director of Brand Communications & Public Relations at Ugg. “These pieces of art express our brand’s promise of comfort inside and out.”

It’s just the latest furniture-meets-fashion-work for Nuriev, who has previously collaborated with Balenciaga and Nike. While many consider him avant-garde for his futuristic—and often monochromatic—neon palette as well as unexpected materials (his Balenciaga sofa, for example, was made of upcycled clothing), Nuriev describes his design style as transformative. “I take shapes or objects that already existed—and usually they don’t have a second chance at another life, as people just try to invent something new or get rid of it—and transform them into something else,” he explains.

The shape of the Ugg sofa, for example, was inspired by furniture from an eighties videos game, whereas the shoe silhouettes are borrowed from the blueprint to assemble Ugg shoes. “There are so many beautiful things behind it,” Nuriev adds.
