While the Barbie movie tour has delivered a plethora of candy-colored ensembles, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer press tour has also made its mark with its red carpet fashion moments. From Cillian Murphy’s sheer Saint Laurent shirt to Florence Pugh’s burnt orange Valentino haute couture gown and matching orange buzz cut, the looks have felt theatrical and err on the dark side.
At the London premiere of Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt wore an Alexander McQueen ’40s sequin ensemble, before leaving with the rest of the cast in a mass walkout in solidarity with the actor’s strike in America.
The outfit – look 51 from the brand’s fall 2023 collection, to be precise – comprised a black and silver cut-out dress adorned with bugle beads, as well as featuring pronounced capped sleeves and a sweeping fringed skirt. Blunt topped it all off with a black and silver clutch bag, drop earrings and a black leather pair of strappy sandals. “I loved the nostalgia and modernity of this stunning creation,” Blunt tells Vogue. “I gasped when I first saw it.”
“With Oppenheimer being a period piece set in between the ’40’s and ’50s, the minute I saw this gorgeous creation, it inspired me,” shares stylist Jessica Paster. “I love the fringe and the cut of the dress, the bugle beads and the shoulder, which gives me nostalgia for that period.”
Florence Pugh also walked the red carpet ahead of the walkout, wearing a burnt orange dress from Valentino’s fall 2023 couture collection, designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli. She dyed her buzz cut to match the color of the dress, as it was a light pink shade the day before.
