Barcelona are looking to shift striker Luuk de Jong just TWO MONTHS since he joined on loan

Barcelona are already making plans to get Luuk de Jong off their books – only two months after signing the Dutch striker on loan.

De Jong was a last-minute arrival at the Nou Camp from Sevilla as Barca pulled off a complicated loan move which saw Antoine Griezmann head back to Atletico Madrid to lighten their inflated wage bill and also led to Saul Niguez heading to Chelsea.

The Dutch forward, who had been inconsistent for Sevilla and flopped at Newcastle, was certainly a surprise choice for Barca given his limited skillset, with his main attribute being his aerial ability.

And now that compatriot Ronald Koeman has been sacked by the club, Barcelona are looking to cut their losses and move the 31-year-old on.

According to a report in Catalan newspaper Sport, Barca are looking to offload De Jong in the January transfer window.

Sergi Barjuan has been put in temporary charge of Barca for their next games against Alaves and Dinamo Kiev, with legendary midfielder Xavi Hernandez set to be named as permanent coach next week.

De Jong was a surprise signing made on transfer deadline day in a complicated swoop

As the midfield mastermind of the all-conquering Barca side of the last decade coached by Pep Guardiola, Xavi is a devout believer in free-flowing, possession football and morally opposed to the direct football the club had been playing in recent weeks under Koeman.

And according to Sport, the 41-year-old does not want to coach De Jong and wants to get rid of the striker in order to sign another forward in the January window, with Raheem Sterling among the players they are looking at bringing in.

Barca’s plans to move the striker on could potentially be complicated by the fact players are not allowed to play for three clubs in one season.

However, De Jong did not play any minutes for Sevilla before joining Barca on 31 August, meaning there should be no obstacles in their way.

The report added that Turkish side Besiktas are one of the clubs interested in signing De Jong, who has scored one goal for Barca in nine games in all competitions.
