Australian cricket great Andrew Symonds is killed in a car crash at the age of 46 – shocking the sporting world just weeks after Shane Warne’s fatal heart attack
Australian cricket great Andrew Symonds has died in a single-car crash at the age of 46.
The tragedy unfolded at 10.30pm on Saturday at Hervey Range, west of Townsville on Queensland’s east coast, when his vehicle left the road and rolled.
‘Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries,’ Queensland police said on Sunday morning.
The accident is under investigation.
Symonds’ family confirmed his death and thanked friends and fans for their sympathy and support.
His passing comes after sporting legend Shane Warne suffered a fatal heart attack in Thailand in March.

Symonds was one of cricket’s most popular characters during the peak of his career, before he went on to work for Fox Sports.
He played 26 Tests throughout his career between 1999 and 2007 and was a critical member of Australia’s one-day side that won the World Cup.
The star player, affectionately known as ‘Roy’, grew up in Queensland and created a legacy as one of the best allrounders in some of Australia’s greatest teams.
