Assam government’s poverty alleviation scheme Orunodoi will encompass another 6 lakh beneficiaries. The amount to be increased to Rs 1,250 from Rs 1000 from next month onwards. Beneficiary families will have a logo outside home.

Presently there are 22 lakh beneficiaries. This scheme in which money is transferred through direct beneficiary transfer (DBT) aims to alleviate the financial problem of improvised families through substantial income support.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said from October 10 onwards the monthly disbursal under the scheme will be increased to Rs 1250. “The additional amount of Rs 250 to economically-weak families to help them pay their monthly electricity bills”.

The state government has launched ‘Orunodoi Month’. Sarma said, “beneficiary list of the scheme will be updated in the next two months. Student volunteers will visit households for updating the list till September 20, and once the field visits are over, the list will be finalised by the district committees by October 10.

He added, “Some people have opted out of the scheme as they no longer fit in the beneficiary criteria. The volunteers will do on the spot verification. Post October there will be a logo outside the house of beneficiaries.”

Sarma disburses Rs 119.10 crores as an assistance to 2,04,348 families whose houses were fully or partially damaged in the recent flood.

Sarma said,” We will disburse an amount of Rs 119.10 crores as flood rehabilitation fund through direct benefit transfer to those affected.”

Around 180 people across 34 districts have lost their lives due to floods , 19 people have died in landslides.”
