The New Jersey Devils say Timo Meier is a game-time decision for Game 1 of their second-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday after the forward was hit hard by New York Rangers defenceman Jacob Trouba in Game 7 on Monday.

Meier was cleared to return after being examined following the open-ice hit early in Game 7 of the Devils’ 4-0 win.
ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reports Meier was wearing a cage at morning skate.
The Devils acquired Meier at the trade deadline from the San Jose Sharks. He was considered one of the top players available at the deadline.
Meier did not have a point in the series against the Rangers after putting up 14 points (nine goals, five assists) in 21 regular-season games with the Devils.

Frederik Andersen started Carolina’s series-clinching 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders in Game 6. He was sidelined for an illness the first five games with Antti Raanta starting.
Andersen played 34 games for Carolina in the regular season, while Raanta was in for 27.
