Ann Demeulemeester Will Curate Her Creative Heritage at This June’s Pitti

At the very last, ramped-up Covid-restrictions forced Ann Demeulemeester’s planned reboot event at January’s edition of Pitti to be canceled. Today Pitti confirmed that next month’s 102nd edition will see Demeulemeester re-established as the Florence menswear fair’s Guest of Honor. Demeulemeeseter herself will curate the project at the Stazione Leopolda, creating another headline event at a Pitti that will also feature Grace Wales Bonner as guest designer.

As originally planned, the event will mark the transition of Demeulemeester to the ownership of Italian entrepreneur Claudio Antonioli, who bought a majority stake in 2020 and relaunched the house, showing at Paris Fashion Week.

Commenting today, Pitti’s director of events Lapo Cianchi called Demeulemeester’s return “a gift for the whole Pitti community,” and added: “the curatorial work carried out on the archive on this occasion moves beyond the recovery of memories that are useful for citing in new collections and becomes a regular act of fashion: an artistic-aesthetic intervention.” The venerable Florentine also announced that the upcoming edition—running from June 14-17—will be given the theme Pitti Island.
