Anjana Sukhani: There can be a passage of time when one will enjoy violence on screen, but simplicity will always shine – Exclusive – Times of India

ETimes reached out to Anjana Sukhani, who plays Manisha in this Indian drama, and the actress shared what made her take up this role. She says, “I think what was important for me was to do something which is constantly being churned out, such as shows which have a lot of violence and bad language. So I wanted to do something which is real, inspiring and I think it just happened at the right time. I have been a big fan of Apoorv Singh Karki as he directed ‘Aspirants’ which was the finest show we saw on screen. And I had literally tortured him to cast me saying he didn’t have a choice. But on a serious note, what made me take up this series is of course the story but also the character which I am portraying. As I really haven’t come across any such person who can resemble my character from the show. In fact, when I read the character I thought it was fake. I mean how can someone be like this. I felt that even portraying such a character would be fake.”

“But Apoorv was so sure about the character and a thin line in between, where the character can become fake and where it can’t. It is not easy for a woman to accept another woman in her husband’s life and stay in the same house and get accepted,” she adds.

While Saas Bahu Achaar Pvt Ltd tells a simple story of a woman and her struggles to set up an achaar business with an intention to get her kids back from her ex-husband, Anjana feels that simplicity is here to stay. “A light-hearted story that gives out a strong message still resonates. I think simplicity will shine no matter what. Maybe there can be a passage of time, where one will enjoy all those crime shows, thrillers, and shows with bad language and violence, it is like even if you eat butter chicken, dal makhani and what not, you will want to come back home and have that dal chawal. So simplicity is that. Simplicity will always win you through. It is not derogatory saying this but it is a remark. If you see 10 different girls wearing short dresses beautifully decked up with very nice make-up done, and you see one simple girl in a saree, it will surely take one’s breath away,” Anjana concludes.
