‘Andaaz’ producer Suneel Darshan says when he launched Priyanka Chopra, she had a dark complexion and few defects to correct – Times of India

Priyanka Chopra isn’t just one of the biggest superstars of the country but a global star now. The actress made her debut in 2003 with two releases – ‘Hero : The Love Story Of a Spy’ and ‘Andaaz’. The latter was produced by Suneel Darshan and directed by Raj Kanwar. The film starred Priyanka alongside Akshay Kumar and Lara Dutta.

Recently producer Suneel Darshan spoke about the casting of ‘Andaaz’ in an interview with Siddharth Kannan and he said that his first impression of Priyanka was that she was very different. He had worked with actresses like Karisma Kapoor, Juhi Chawla, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Priyanka was different. But he was sure within 15 minutes of his interaction with her that he would either make a big star of her or the film would be a disaster.

He further added that she had a dark complexion and a few defects to correct at that point. But she had this hunger and a mellifluous voice which was gorgeous. Darshan further confessed that while everyone on his set was going gaga over Lara Dutta, the producer felt that Lara is good but Priyanka will prove to be the dark horse. She’ll be like Rekha.

Darshan also shared that it was he who convinced Akshay and Priyanka to be a part of ‘Aitraaz’. PC had started crying when she was offered the role of a vamp, but Darshan explained it to her that the film will do great for her in the longer run.

Let’s just say, all’s well that ends well. ‘Aitraaz’ continues to be one of the most iconic films of Priyanka’s career. The actress will be seen next in Hollywood project ‘Citadel’ and ‘Jee Le Zara’.
