The US-based e-commerce tech giant Amazon has launched a new and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) to identify fake product reviews on the platform. According to the company, when a customer submits a review and before being published online, Amazon’s AI solution analyses the review for known indicators that the review is fake

“The vast majority of reviews pass Amazon’s high bar for authenticity and get posted right away. However, if potential review abuse is detected, there are several paths the company takes,” said the company.

As per company, Amazon’s machine learning models utilize proprietary data to analyze various factor. If Amazon is confident the review is fake, they promptly block or remove it and take additional measures, like revoking review permissions, blocking deceptive accounts, and, if needed, pursuing legal action.

In cases where suspicion lingers but more evidence is required, Amazon’s trained investigators, adept at spotting abusive behavior, search for additional signals before acting.

“Deep graph neural networks are employed to scrutinize complex relationships and behavior patterns, helping detect and remove groups of bad actors. Josh Meek, senior data science manager on Amazon’s Fraud Abuse and Prevention team, emphasises that distinguishing between authentic and fake reviews isn’t always clear to those outside Amazon,” the e-commerce giant said.

Meanwhile, Amazon has announced that it is cutting hundreds of jobs in the unit responsible for its popular voice assistant, Alexa, as the company shifts its business priorities to focus on generative artificial intelligence (AI).

Alexa is an AI-based voice assistant that can be used to set timers, ask search queries, play music, or as a home automation hub. According to Reuters, the cuts affect several hundred employees working on Alexa.

As per the report, Amazon is streamlining operations across various divisions this month, with cutbacks observed in music, gaming, and certain human resources roles.
