‘All Of Us Are Dead’ filmmaker Lee Jae Kyoo on addressing bullying and teen pregnancy in the show: These issues are ‘not just confined to the school’ – Times of India

‘All of Us Are Dead’ has emerged as the latest hit from South Korea that focuses on gruesome violence and horror action amid zombie apolocypse set against the backdrop of a high school. Starring a bunch of young actors, the series is currently among the top 10 charts of the OTT giant in multiple countries. Talking about the success of the show, director Lee Jae Kyoo recently opened up about his show that touched upon many lesser-talked subjects, such as bullying, violence and teen pregnancy through the narrative.

A different take from mainstream zombie flick, ‘All of Us Are Dead’ director shared with Tatler Aisa that issues portrayed in the show are ‘not just confined to the school space’. He said, “I think these conflicts between genders and classes and different hierarchies, appear everywhere and in all corners of the world. It just shows through at the school because that’s the setting.”

When asked more about the show, Lee Jae Kyoo went on to describe how the concept of survival and rescue in teenagers are often different than to adults, which influenced the storyline. “When I was young, we used to swim in the streams and if someone begins to drown, all the kids will just jump in to save their friend. But when we become adults, we choose the safest option—we don’t just jump in but we think about the safest way to save others and ourselves,” he explained.

“I thought about what it means to be an adult and what education and society do to us. When you watch the series, you can see how these teens make decisions in these life or death situations. I think that could also give adults a lot of food for thought. I thought it was a fresh approach to put these immature adolescents against zombies on a school campus so I’m very pleased to bring you this idea,” he concluded.
