Alan Shearer leads the praise for Harry Kane as striker becomes Tottenham’s all-time top scorer

Alan Shearer has led the praise for Harry Kane after the striker achieved two milestones in Tottenham’s game against Manchester City.

Kane opened the scoring against City with his 267th goal for Tottenham, making him the club’s all-time top scorer as he moved ahead of Jimmy Greaves.

In addition, the England international reached the landmark of 200 Premier League goals.

Shearer remains the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer with 260 goals, while Wayne Rooney, who has 208, is the only other player to haves scored more in the division than Kane.

Shortly after Kane found the net, Shearer posted a picture of himself and Rooney accompanied by the caption: ‘Congratulations @HKane passing the great Jimmy Greaves record at @SpursOfficial. Also @WayneRooneyand I were wondering where you’ve been! Well done on joining the 200 @Premierleague club.’

Former Tottenham striker Gary Lineker also praised Kane on social media. 

Lineker wrote: ‘He’s done it. @HKane scores yet again and goes ahead of the great Jimmy Greaves as @SpursOfficial’s all-time top scorer. What an incredible achievement. Well played.’

Spurs congratulated Kane on their official account. They wrote: ‘He’s done it!!! Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time record goalscorer!’.

Fans have also taken to social media to praise Kane following his historic goal. One supporter wrote: ‘HARRY KANE IS THE GOAT’.

Another praised Kane for being a ‘legend’.

While one supporter said: Our all time leading goalscorer. The one and only @HKane Tottenham legend. Let’s hope the result matches the occasion

Another wrote: ‘He is just awesome. There’s no 2 ways about it. Congratulations @HKane Tottenham hero & legend.’

One fan wrote that Kane will soon be the Premier League’s all-time top scorer. They wrote: ‘He’ll be #1 soon.’

Another added: ‘Harry Kane is consistently proving himself to be one of the best footballers in the world. He’s scoring vital goals and leading the way for Tottenham!’.

While others took the opportunity to criticise the club. One supporter wrote: ‘Congrats Kane. Sorry ownership aren’t as ambitious. I hope you get a trophy for us one day #COYS #LevyOut #EnicOut’.
