Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to start shooting for Mumbai schedule of ‘Ponniyin Selvan: I’ – Times of India
Mani Ratnam is in Mumbai to shoot for the next schedule of his passion project Ponniyin Selvan: I (PS1). Aishwarya Rai Bachchan who plays the antagonist in the film will be participating in the schedule along with actor Karthi.
PS1 is an adaptation of author Kalki Krishnamurthy’s 1955 novel with the same name. Apart from Aishwarya and Karthi, film also features prominent stars from the South like Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Jayaram, Sobhita Dhulipala, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Vikram Prabhu and Ashwin Kakumanu while R Sarathkumar, R Parthiban, Prabhu, Prakash Raj and Rahman have supporting roles.
This has been Mani Ratnam’s passion project which was first attempted by him in 1990s and then in 2010s, which he finally revived in 2019. The late MG Ramachandran had also tried to make Ponniyin Selvan back in the 1950s but that project didn’t materialise either.
While a major part of PS1 has already been shot in various schedules beginning from 2019 and sporadically being finished through the two years of the pandemic, currently the team is shot for certain special sequences needed for the film.
‘PS1’ features music by AR Rahman and the film is slated to release later this year.
