Aaron Judge injury update is encouraging but far from definitive

There has been a positive update on New York Yankees star Aaron Judge’s toe injury, but there still isn’t clarity on a potential return date.

Last weekend, New York Yankees star Aaron Judge made an incredible catch that saw him crash through the outfield fence at Dodger Stadium. In the process of making the catch, Judge ran right into a concrete portion of the fence that resulted in a big toe injury.

Days afterward, testing confirmed that Judge had suffered a contusion and a sprain of his right big toe, which required him to receive a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) shot. With that, he was placed on the 10-day injured list.

There was a positive update regarding Judge’s recovery heading into the second game of the Yankees’ series against the Boston Red Sox.

Manager Aaron Boone revealed that the swelling has improved in Judge’s right big toe and that the team’s trainers are encouraged. Boone also revealed that he had “a lengthy conversation” about what the next few days would look like for Judge.

Yankees: Aaron Boone provides positive injury update on Aaron Judge

For Yankees fans wanting to know an exact timeline for a return, that has yet to be revealed. But, hearing Boone mention speaking with Judge about how the next few days could look, does provide some optimism for them. But, they undoubtedly would like to hear he would be back soon. After all, he’s the team’s best hitter.

Judge did miss time earlier this year with a hip strain, sidelining him from Apr. 27 until May 9. Even with missing the early portion of the month, he still won the American League Player of the Month after recording a .342 batting average, a .474 on-base percentage, a .882 slugging percentage,  12 home runs, 23 runs scored, and 25 RBI.

On the year, Judge recorded a .291 batting average, a .404 on-base percentage, a .674 slugging percentage (MLB-high), a 1.078 OPS (MLB-high), 19 home runs (MLB-high), 40 RBI, 42 runs scored, and 51 hits in 49 games.

As for the outfield fence that resulted in Judge injuring his toe, Los Angeles Dodgers team president Stan Kasten announced that they were reinforcing the fence and adding padding to the concrete portion.

A positive update for Judge, but still no official word on when he can return.
