Aaron Jones: Jordan Love has earned ‘full trust’ of Packers

Green Bay Packers running back Aaron Jones has given new starting quarterback Jordan Love an impressive vote of confidence.

According to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk, Jones told reporters Wednesday that Love has already won the “full trust” of teammates and that “everybody listens” whenever the 2020 first-round draft pick addresses the locker room.

“He believes in himself, first off,” Jones said of Love. “That’s No. 1. You’ve got to believe in yourself or nobody else is going to believe in you. He believes in himself, he cares about everybody around him and we’ve seen him just come in consistently and just work, work, work.”

Love spent most of his first three NFL campaigns as a backup behind Aaron Rodgers and completed 60.2% of just 83 career regular-season passes for 606 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. Even before Rodgers officially joined the New York Jets via a trade completed in late April, Jones noted during Super Bowl week he believed Love would “definitely be” the right person to replace the future Hall of Famer.

Alper shared in a different piece how Love acknowledged Wednesday he “can step up and be a little more vocal” now that he’s cemented atop the depth chart in place of Rodgers. Jones praised Love’s patience, particularly as Packers players spent multiple winters wondering if Rodgers would force an exit from Green Bay or retire.

“As an athlete, you want to come in and play right away,” Jones continued. “That wasn’t Jordan’s case, he didn’t have that opportunity. He did it the right way, he waited his time and you never heard one peep or complaint out of him.”

Individuals associated with the Packers such as general manager Brian Gutekunst aren’t hiding that they’re expecting some growing pains with Love in the lineup. Jones and other veteran Green Bay players will be tasked with helping the 24-year-old evolve into a full-time NFL starting quarterback as quickly as possible.
