Houston’s NCAA volleyball tournament got off to a winning start on Friday night, and one wild play from the fourth set certainly aided their efforts vs. South Dakota.
With Houston leading the set 5-1, their opponents looked like they had won a point as the ball was bumped well beyond the field of play by the Cougars.
That’s when Kate Georgiades made the play of a lifetime.
The libero extended for the ball with her feet in the air to make a miraculous return of the ball, crashing through a table as she kept the play alive.
As the play went on, Georgiades managed to get back in position to help her team as they clawed back from the near-loss of the point.

Georgiades seemed almost amused after hitting the ridiculous shot for her team
After more than 40 seconds of rallying, a Houston player near the front of the net was able to end the point with a def tap over the net.
Cougars players swarmed Georgiades at the end of the point, as they realized just how incredible her save had been.
And the libero (black shirt) was delighted to be congratulated by her teammates after the point
However, the rest of the set actually went South Dakota’s way, as they won 25-23 and forced a fifth and final set.
Houston bounced back to win the final and decisive fifth set.
They’ll now turn their focus to Auburn, who they play on Saturday night.
