Brahmastra’s box office opening might put the boycott brigade out of business, say trade pundits – Times of India

Trade pundits believe the opening that is expected for Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt’s Brahmastra will prove to be the obituary for the boycott brigade on social media. Trade analyst Komal Nahata spoke about the box office opening of Ayan Mukerji’s film and added, “The very fact that the opening of Brahmastra is going to be huge is going to prove to be the death for the boycott brigade that has been plaguing Bollywood. “Nahata justified his thoughts adding, “Films have failed not because of this brigade but due to poor content. This includes Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha so the boycott groups better not take credit for it.” Nahata said the Alia and Ranbir Kapoor starrer will take an opening of nothing less than Rs 27 crores on day one of the release. He said, “Brahmastra’s opening will be the biggest after the lockdown which should be a big relief for Bollywood.”

Echoing similar sentiments, trade analyst Atul Mohan said, “I don’t think this boycott trend impacts the film business. This trend is fuelled by a few mentally disturbed people, who find pleasure in trolling from the comfort of their anonymity. If they’ve got the guts, they should do it with their real identity. They are nothing but jobless, frustrated bots and Twitter terrorists. Just because a couple of films didn’t work, they think they can decide the fate of any film and entertainment business. These films were not good films and their debacle had nothing to do with their paid trends. The film’s ability to grow or decline depends on reviews and word of mouth. Look at the advance booking trend of Brahmastra. It is clearly on its way to emerge as the biggest opener this year and most likely the biggest post-pandemic.”

Exhibitor and distributor Raj Bansal also debunked the claims of the boycott brigade predicting the failure of films at the box office. He said, “Films have failed because of their content and those who are taking credit for the box office misses are only seasonal rats who will disappear after one hit.”

Distribution consultant Suniel Wadhwa felt Bollywood is finally entering a shining spot after being stuck in the doldrums. The advance booking of Brahmastra had garnered approximately 2 lakh ticket sales by Thursday at leading multiplex chains alone. He added, “It is clear that the viewers are eager for a big screen experience and the audience will be treated to a sizzle reel. Hopefully, this spur of interest in the slate will continue for the coming month with Vikram Vedha waiting in the wings.”
