Sinha said that the country’s prime minister and home minister have promised in Parliament that the elections would be held in J&K after the completion of the delimitation exercise. The LG expressed these views during a late Saturday night function organised to felicitate senior Congress leader Karan Singh for his contribution to the erstwhile state of J&K.
“The process of delimitation is complete and now the process of preparing fresh electoral rolls has been started. After this process, the elections will be held surely,” said Sinha.
The J&K LG said this statement has been repeated several times that after delimitation there will be election and then statehood would be restored at an appropriate time. “I do not think there is any scope of doubt in it,” he said. Sinha said that democracy is the soul of India. “Democracy and India are synonyms…statement made in the Parliament of India is as true as the rising sun from the east,” he said
After a gap of three years, the Election Commission of India has recently ordered the special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls in J&K with respect to October 1, 2022, as the next qualifying date for preparation of Electoral Rolls after conclusion of the ongoing pre-revision activities.
During the function,Singh also expressed hope that union territory status of J&K was temporary just as Article 370 as per the BJP’s point of view.
