Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur participated in the Teachers’ Day celebration at the regional center of Sports Authority of India (SAI) in Bengaluru on Sunday.
Addressing the players, coaches and SAI officials, the Minister reflected upon the contribution of teachers in shaping our future. He called upon coaches at SAI to shed rigid mindset and accept sportsmen under their care with open mind. He stressed that a good coach is the one who believes that he is nurturing and polishing the future medal prospects of India. He emphasised on the need for the coach to and adapt to new challenges and apprise themselves of new curriculum in training techniques. Mr. Thakur added that the role of a coach, is to inspire, motivate and infuse confidence in the sportspersons. He pointed out that the Central Government has stood by the sportspersons and the Prime Minister himself spent time with the Olympians infusing confidence in them to overcome stress and encouraging them to give their best without fearing for the outcome.
The Minister appreciated the efforts of our sportspersons who brought medals for the country and made India’s National Flag fly high and the national anthem played during the Olympic and Paralympic events in Tokyo. Mr. Thakur said, this has raise the interest of youth towards national sports in the country. He said it is time the country prepare its sports persons for the upcoming events, including Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Championships and Olympics. After the event, the Sports Minister interacted with the students and obliged them with selfies.
