80% have received at least one dose in 19 of 36 states, UTs

State-wise data maintained by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare shows that 19 of the 36 states and UTs have vaccinated at least 80% of population. This list includes the worst-hit states like Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Delhi has covered 85.6% of its population with a single dose and 47% with both doses. In neighbouring Haryana, 85% have taken one shot and 37% both doses. Gujarat has covered 88% of its population with a single dose while Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan have vaccinated 90% and 82% with a single dose. Seven states and union territories have covered their entire population with a single dose.

These states and UTs have high second dose coverage also with Sikkim at 83, Lakshadweep 91%, Chandigarh 56%, Himachal Pradesh 55%, Andaman and Nicobar 63%, Goa 67% and Dadra and Nagar Haveli at 45%. These states have a first dose coverage which is higher than the national average of 75%.

Maharashtra, which has been the worst-hit state, has covered 76.37% of its population by a single dose. Uttar Pradesh, which has the highest population, has inoculated 63.97% with at least one dose. Other good performing states and UTs include Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Assam, J&K and Mizoram.

The maximum number of doses administered are by Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Even as West Bengal has administered 5.04 crore first doses and 1.89 crore second doses, but its average population coverage is below the national average of 75%.

The Centre has asked states to renew focus on second doses.
