6 Ways to Copy Anne Hathaway’s Winning Cannes Film Festival Looks

From the coiffed updos to the dazzling haute couture gowns, there’s never a shortage of glamour at the Cannes Film Festival. This year proved to be no different with a multitude of breathtaking celebrity looks. But out of all the glitzy moments, it was Anne Hathaway and her head-turning ensembles that truly stole our hearts this year.

From the moment she arrived at the Nice Côte d’Azur airport (in a chic baggy suit) to the instant she sashayed onto the red carpet (with perfectly split bangs), Hathaway completely owned this year’s festivities. So it only makes sense that we take a closer look at some of her best fashion and beauty moments.

Ahead, you’ll find the exact products that her hair stylists used on her brunette tresses, plus, some of the fashion items that helped her win best-dressed celebrity.

“The inspiration came directly from Anne herself and her delight and excitement for attending Cannes Festival for the first time whilst also rising to the occasion,” celebrity makeup artist Florrie White tells Vogue. She took note of how Hathaway was feeling to achieve the star’s fresh, radiant look. “I enhanced her features using technical skills which play with light and shadow instead of covering or masking, to really refine her natural beauty.” White collaborated with stylist Erin Walsh and hairstylist Abir Abergel to bring the entire look together.

Abergel gave Hathaway a classic voluminous blowout with a variety of tools: Virtue stylers, his beloved Ibiza Boar Bristle Brush, and metal velcro rollers. Even more, he offers this tip to let rollers cool completely before taking them down: “Letting your sections cool guarantees locking down a style.”

“I pulled a lot of references of early ’60s French ingénue actresses in a great feeling effortlessness,” says Abergel of Hathaway’s screening look. To complement the white sequined column gown and dazzling jewels, he perfected undone, face-framing waves thanks to a T3 1-inch curling iron, finished with a spritz of Virtue hairspray and tousled by the brand’s lightweight oil. For makeup, White created what she deems her favorite type of natural look. She achieved the “clean skin created with [the] technique above with light highlights from the Hourglass Ambient palette” with lashes subtle highlights in the corner of the eyes by Sisley Paris Phyto-Ombre in Glow Pearl and Topaz.

Per Abergel, Hathaway’s press day look was “inspired by the height of the ’60s and the effortlessness of the supermodel era.” To get that notable volume at the root, he turned to Virtue’s Volumizing Primer and the 6-in-1 Guard Hairspray before passing with a curling iron, then held in place with creaseless pins. “After releasing her crown, I gently picked pieces to frame her face,” he notes. “I enhanced her volume subtly at the crown and, with the help of a few u-pins, pinned half of her hair up.”

White kept the skin fresh by diluting concealer with moisturizer (instead of foundation) to even out skin tone and spot concealing targeted areas as necessary. Otherwise, she applied the Sisley Paris Phyto-Rouge Shine in Petal on the lips. “Under her glasses, we gave a nod to Catherine Deneuve in the ’60s with a soft lined eye but with brown liner instead of black to keep it modern and fresh under the sun,” she says.

Hathaway gave us a chic lesson in airport dressing by adding an effortlessly cool edge to a black suit with a baggy (not frumpy) fit, elevated white T-shirt, and classic sneakers.

For an outing with her husband in Cannes, Hathaway breathed new life into a classic pair of jeans with a whip-stitched cardigan and Dr. Barbara Strum x Aquazzura heels.

Hathaway ended her trip to the French Riviera in another picture-perfect denim look. This time a classic white blouse allowed her woven hat to take center stage. And, of course, she kept a cozy jacket in her hands just in case the temperature on the airplane was a bit chilly.
