4 killed in lightning strikes in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur

Officials reported that four individuals have tragically lost their lives in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Uttar Pradesh. The incidents occurred in the local area, with two victims identified as Naseeruddin, also known as Babu, aged 55, and Ikram Ansari, aged 28, who were struck by lightning at Cheetnath ghat along the banks of the Ganga River on Tuesday. Additionally, Suraj Rajbhar, aged 10, and Durga Devi, aged 48, were struck by lightning in the Shadiabad area.

In response to these unfortunate events, the district administration has announced that the family members of the victims will receive financial assistance in accordance with established norms. The administration will proceed with post-mortem examinations of the deceased individuals to facilitate the necessary support.

Earlier on Tuesday, 4 July, lightening struck in Azamgarh district of Uttar Pradesh in which six people lost their lives and one child sustained injuries. The District Administration confirmed that five individuals were electrocuted in Barwa Sagar, falling under the jurisdiction of Mehnagar police station, while another incident claimed the life of one person in the Maharajganj area.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences on Tuesday for the lightning-related deaths in Azamgarh and Ghazipur districts. He announced a relief amount of 4 lakh to support the families of the deceased and instructed officials to ensure proper medical treatment for the injured individuals.

In an effort to prevent electricity-related accidents during the monsoon season, the Yogi government issued guidelines last month for department officials. The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) Chairman, M Devraj, directed officials to strictly adhere to these guidelines and take preventive measures to ensure the safety of outsourced workers.
