25 Plates Of Samosas Ended Up Costing This Mumbai Doctor Rs 1.40 Lakh – Find Out Why

A Mumbai-based doctor and his colleagues’ recent plan to feast on samosas took an unfortunate turn. He ended up losing Rs 1.40 lakh in the bargain. As per a PTI report, the doctor was actually duped when he called a popular restaurant in Sion to order 25 plates of samosas on Saturday. According to the police, the incident took place between 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM on July 8, when the doctor was asked to pay for the snacks before he received them.

The official release explained that the doctor and his colleagues had planned a picnic at Karjat and had ordered samosas for the journey. He had placed the order after locating the restaurant’s number online. The doctor received the confirmation of his order through a WhatsApp message, which also included a bank account number for the payment. The doctor was asked to pay Rs 1,500 as “advance” for the food. But he ended up losing much more.

The official statement added, “The doctor sent Rs 1,500. The man at the other end said the doctor had to create a transaction ID for the payment. While following the instructions to create one, he first lost Rs 28,807 and subsequently Rs 1.40 lakh cumulatively.” So far no arrest has been made. The official informed that Bhoiwada police station has registered a case under Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act provisions.

Police have cautioned people to re-check the phone numbers of popular restaurants online before placing orders and making payments, as this is a fairly common way in which fraudsters operate.
