24 Hours of Concert Halls and Cameos With Charlie Puth

Haven’t you always wanted to spend 24 hours with Charlie Puth in his New Jersey hometown? Well, now’s your chance, as the singer-songwriter recently took Vogue on a tour of Red Bank that included the site of his first jazz concert (“The stage is a lot smaller than I remember it being,” he says. Isn’t that always the way?) Puth learned to play the piano from his mother when he was four years old, and says he had “a natural inclination to just walk over to the piano and play it all the time.”

After the Count Basie Theater, it’s off to Harlem to visit the Manhattan School of Music, where Puth began studying at the age of 14, and where he runs into some students headed into a “History of Musical Theater” class. When Puth makes a surprise cameo, the class can barely keep it together as they learn about the sad history of dancer, actress, and comedian Joan McCracken.

After some piano-playing time, Puth gets real about his on-stage nerves, admitting, “I’m so worried that my voice will fluctuate and pitch live. I’m never happy with how I perform.” Still, he has big plans for his next album, which he plans to call Charlie, and can’t wait to put out something that he describes as “truly me.” We can’t wait either!
